Media artist, Alexander Gelman, in collaboration with traditional Japanese artisans has designed an exquisite limited edition series of Master chess sets.
Exquisite chess sets made from some of the finest materials are no longer just a piece of decor but a symbol of one’s status as well. Truly exceptional, every piece is unique and made of lacquer, silver plating and gold leaf. Gelman and the artisans took up to 10 months to produce each piece by hand, using century old techniques. What is more, these are the only five such sets in the world! The exclusivity and exquisiteness have made these chess sets extremely expensive with prices ranging up to $55,000.
Gelman’s work is at MOMA, The Smithsonian and Bibliotheque, and some of his most recent collaborations include projects with Apple, Nike, Target and Warp Records. He is also the founder Globally Local Media, a foundation that promotes Japanese culture.
