If your dream is to buy an island, you need to follow your heart to the Bahamas. Estate agency Savills is offering the Great Whale Cay island, for sale for $80 million!
Great Whale Cay, 30 minutes by boat from Nassau, has been privately owned since the early 1900’s and spans 850+ acres of lush, ecologically unspoiled land with high elevations and extraordinary white sand beaches. This L-shaped island has over fourteen miles of waterfront property surrounded by coral reefs and deep water. Located at the tongue of the ocean, Whale Cay boasts some of the best fishing and diving in the Caribbean.
A historically significant piece of land, the island belonged to “Joe” Carstairs, heiress of the Standard Oil fortune, and was visited by the Duke and Duchess of Windsor in the Forties. The L-shaped Island boasts of historic buildings (Great house, lighthouse, and church), rare flora and fauna.
But what makes it such a rare and valuable opportunity, according to Giles Gale of estate agency Savills, is the private paved airstrip. The prospective owners will have full control of the island and own 94 per cent of the land, although there is also a possibility to purchase smaller parcels of land or the whole thing.
The island is sold with outline planning consent to develop the land into a luxury private island resort, with commercially operated airstrip, marina, hotel and resort homes. Sure to attract a number of luxury loving holidaymakers, the Great Whale Cay Island is sure to be the most luxurious private island, especially when the last year, the 350-acre Bell Island, also in the Berry Islands, sold for $70 million.
