In March 2010, Gordon & Macphail released the oldest whisky in the world. Distilled at Mortlach Distillery in Dufftown on the 15th of October 1938 this unique and exceptionally rare Single Malt Scotch Whisky is bottled at natural cask strength (46.1%), having been patiently matured for 70 years in a first fill sherry hogshead.
This Mortlach 70 was filled into a Spanish oak, ex-bodega sherry hogshead – universally acknowledged to be the best wood for so rich a whisky.
The fine Scotch distilled before most of our parents were even born has managed to assemble all the flavors in the process of maturity, as it is complete with notes of dry fig and smoky tobacco all throughout. It is sure to give you a lovely experience with its slightly sweet start, spry taste and a long finish. It comes in a nice package, so you can smother yourself with pride while taking out that pricey booze out of your case.
