The Smart-ologic Corian Living by designer Karim Rashid is a sustainable housing concept that includes a futuristic kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and living room enclosed in gently undulating walls. Designed for DuPont Corian, the organically shaped home incorporates the versatility and sensory quality of the materials and home design solutions finished in environmentally sustainable bio-sourced components and recycled materials from the company, allowing the residents to lead a sustainable lifestyle.
All areas of the home, from the kitchen to the living room to the bedroom including the garden as well have been made with environmentally sustainable bio-sourced components and recycled materials, displaying the company’s efforts to decrease its environmental footprint. Furthermore, the project also marks the debut of the DuPont Zodiaq quartz surfaces which Karim has used in designing some of the furniture in this house.
The Smart-ologic Corian Living project gave me the opportunity to design a modular holistic house concept, a metaphor for how materials, technologies, housing, furnishings and space can work together to evoke an increased sense of experience, positively affect our psyche and bring us a better contemporary life, a better living, and also enable us to reduce the environmental imprint of our daily decisions and actions – says Karim.
Featuring gentle colors from the current range, together with colors from the 2010 series of DuPont Corian, the futuristic home reduces the carbon footprint of the residents but without compromising on modern luxury. Moreover, the sustainable home will include DuPont building integrated photovoltaic modules and Tyvek woven membranes, along with DuPont Energain panels to reduce energy consumption. The photovoltaic modules of DuPont, integrated into the roof, create environmentally-sustainable energy. All the lighting is LED for efficiency and low energy consumption and the radiant floors are powered by solar generated energy.
The Smart-ologic Corian Living is definitely smart home concept.
