Hennessey Performance revealed the official details on the Venom GT supercar. Based on a Lotus Elise, their kit will be limited to only 10 units, 4 of them already being ordered. 2011 Venom GT is built on a heavily molested Lotus Elise chassis and driven by one of three versions of the 6.2-liter LS9 V8 used in the Corvette ZR1. The base model is supercharged and produces 725 horsepower and 741 pound-feet of torque. The other two mills are both twin turbocharged and produce 1,000 hp and 1,200 hp, respectively.
Hennessey Venom GT
Thanks to the extensive use of carbon fiber, Hennessey says the Venom GT tips the scales at less 2,400 pounds. Couple that svelte curb weight with 1,200 horsepower and the Venom GT promises to be one of the top performance machines on the market. The supecar comes with a 6-speed Ricardo manual and theoretically reaches 260 mph in sixth gear at 6,600 rpm, though the speed goes up to 270 mph. All this translates to a 0-to-62 MPH in 2.9 seconds. Stopping power comes via Brembos with 6-piston calipers and 15-inch carbon ceramic discs at each corner. The sleek body provides a drag coefficient of 0.36 with the rear wing down and 0.43 with it up.
In order to ensure that power doesn’t get out of hand, Hennessey equipped the Venom GT with an active aero kit, allowing for the rear wing to adjust to the ideal angle based on a number of conditions. The Venom GT also comes packing a programmable traction control system and an adjustable suspension.
Each Venom GT is built in Silverstone, England, with power plants sourced from HPE’s Texas headquarters. Available in both left and right-hand drive configuration, the Venom GT is an international supercar fusing the power and emotion of American V8 muscle with the refinement of Britain’s renowned racing heritage.
Hennessey plans to make just 10 examples of the Venom GT per year, with pricing expected to match that exclusivity.
