Instead of spending weeks pondering over which suit or aftershave to buy fiance Russell Brand for his birthday, Katy Perry decided to go for something completely unique and spent a staggering $200,000 on a ticket to space for the comedian.
Perry has purchased a ticket to Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic space adventure, wherein Brand will be enjoying a maiden voyage with other participants. Virgin Galactic representative Louella Faria said: It is true. We are very excited to have him onboard.
There will be 17-inch diameter windows to look out onto. Passengers will be able to view Earth around 800 miles in any direction from space, Faria added. After travelling into the atmosphere at a rate which is three times the speed of sound, Brand will be given the opportunity to make the most of the lack of gravity and float weightlessly for five minutes before heading back to earth.
The spaceship is currently still in the testing stages, but things are boding well for the vehicle following a successful inaugural test flight this year. As well as Brand, Virgin boss Richard Branson will be going on one of the first flights into space, but he won’t be alone. He said recently: My father wants to come. He’s 93 and keeps telling me to hurry up. I am only going into space when it is safe for myself, my family and everyone else.
