Mercedes-Benz A-Class
Mercedes-Benz, as partial of the partnership with Tesla Motors, will furnish 500 battery-powered E-Cell versions of the A-Class, introducing a car during a Paris Motor Show in October. Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, formed a partnership with Tesla last year to help accelerate the development of electric vehicles. In the case of the A-Class E-Cell, Tesla is to supply its battery pack and controller technology, which will be shipped to the Mercedes-Benz Rastatt plant in Germany where the A-Class model is built.
The vehicle, which will go on sale from early next year, will have a range of 124 miles (200 km) and will have performance equivalent to or slightly faster than the gas versions of the A-Class, said the report. E-Cel A-Class has an about 40 kilowatt-hour battery container, with rounded off 4,000 particular cells.
Only 500 of E-Cell Mercedes-Benz A-Class will be produced, with further details set to be revealed on September 15. No markets have been announced but a US launch is unlikely considering the A-Class model was never sold locally and would need to meet government standards for safety.
