David and Victoria Beckham’s Beckingham Palace
David and Victoria Beckham are taking steps to make their U.S. move even more permanent – they are putting their luxurious English mansion up for sale. The expansive property, dubbed Beckingham Palace, has been valued at £18 million ($27,6 million) by estate agents.
The 24-acre estate located at Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire was picked up for £2.5 million ($3.8 million) in 1999. But the cost of renovating the mansion over the past 11 years cost the celebrity couple well over the asking value now.
The new owners can expect indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a petting zoo, recording studio, a snooker room, a gym, and state-of-the-art floodlit tennis courts. The garden has three £10,000 ($15,400) gazebos, each with a different theme – lakeside, romantic and ornamental. They have also installed a 52ft garden pavilion with a marble floor, which houses a 4ft barbecue that cost £70,000 ($107,700).
The decision to sell comes after they hired accountants to examine their income and outgoings, which found they spend hundreds of thousands on running homes all over the world – an expense which could be easily cut back. The Beckhams already own a £11 million ($17 million) house in Beverly Hills, as well as a £2 million ($3 million) château in France and a luxury apartment in Dubai, and decided running a UK mansion was a needless expense.
