Runco 3Dimension D-73d Projector
Runco, the Ferrari of the projector world, kicks off its version of 3D at CEDIA with the 3Dimension Series projectors which surprisingly use passive glasses instead of the battery operated active ones. Winner of the 2010 CE Pro Best of the Best Award for 3D Flat Panel & Projectors, Runco’s D-73d projector delivers exceptional native 1080p DLP 16×9 performance for both 3D and 2D content that is superior to 3D televisions and public 3D theaters.
For the home automation fans, this series has a range of controls and inputs including HDMI 1.4 and RS-232. Runco is also the first home theater brand to license RealD’s Processing Package, which is used in Runco’s 3Dimension Processor that is paired with the D-73d projector.
According to a press release, Runco’s technology, called Constant Stereoscopic Video, or CSV, uses passive polarized glasses, currently available only in movie theaters. Unlike shutter glasses, which open and close to block alternating images for each eye, polarized glasses use filters to keep the images separate, and they don’t require a sync transmitter.
Also, Runco’s InfiniLight boasts a significant reduction in power consumption, a mercury-free illumination system, and InstantOn, which instantly produces an image and eliminates the need to put the projector in standby mode. The D-73d also offers Runco’s Personal Color Equalizer (PCE), which enables owners to create color settings from the largest pallet ever available and project images exactly to their preferences.
Now for the bad news! The Runco’s 3Dimension D-73d Projector will cost $49,995 when it becomes available in the fourth quarter. You do get six pairs of polarized glasses, but you’ll still need to spring for a screen. Our guess is that those who can afford the projection system will somehow be able to find the money for the screen, perhaps by cutting out free servings of popcorn in their home theaters.
