BVLGARI Blue Diamond, the largest triangular-shaped Fancy Vivid blue diamond
We told you that the Rare BVLGARI Blue Diamond – Two-stone Diamond Ring was going to be auctioned at the Christie’s New York auction and everyone was expecting it to sell at a high price. The ring had an estimate of over $12 million and brought in $15.7 million, making it the top jewel sold at auction in 2010. In just five minutes of bidding the ring reached this exorbitant priced and finally went to an Asian collector for $15,762,500, with premium.
The ring was designed by Rome’s legendary house of BVLGARI in the 1970s and is being sold by a collector who bought it nearly 40 years ago as a present for his wife after the birth of their first son. it features a triangular-shaped, colorless diamond of 9.87 carats matched with a triangular-shaped Fancy Vivid blue diamond of 10.95 carats which is the largest Fancy Vivid blue diamond of this cut ever to be offered at auction.
The 448-lot Christie’s “Jewels: The New York Sale” auction brought in a total of $52.5 million. Other top lots included a rectangular-cut, 17.65 carat, D color, potentially flawless diamond ring by Harry Winston which sold for $2.2 million, a pear shape, 17.86 carat, D color, VS1 diamond ring by Harry Winston fetched $1.8 million, while a pear shape, 12.32 carat, D color, IF diamond sold for $1.3 million. A rectangular-cut, 12.21 carat, D color, potentially flawless diamond ring by Graff sold for $1.2 million.
