New MacBook Air
Apple has unveiled the thinnest, lightest MacBook Air laptop yet which combines features from the iPhone and iPad with traditional series of Mac laptop. During a 90-minute presentation at Apple headquarters, Steve Jobs unveiled Apple’s thinner MacBook Air 11-inch and 13-inch models, along with the new operating system.
Some of the more compelling features include all-flash storage (no whirring hard drives here), a smooth glass multitouch track pad, crisp screen and up to five hours of battery life in the 11-inch model or seven hours for the 13-inch model. The 11-inch MacBook Air weighs 2.3 pounds and is well under an inch thick. The 13-inch model scrapes in at just under 3 pounds and is just as thin as its smaller-screened friend.

MacBook Air features a full-sized keyboard for typing comfort and productivity, as well as the highly acclaimed glass Multi-Touch trackpad, so you can scroll through web sites, flip through photos, and resize or rotate images all from the trackpad. The built-in FaceTime camera, mic and stereo speakers are perfect for video calls with iPhone 4, iPod touch and other Macs.
Apple MacBook Air vs Sony Vaio X505Steve Jobs described New MacBook Air as “the future of notebooks”. But, it can be mentioned here that that Sony already noticed that kind of future a long time ago. Six years ago in 2004, Sony offered the nickel carbon body Vaio X505. The Vaio X505 had some very striking specs for its time, and can be cited as the best example of a laptop that matches Apple’s design of MacBook Air. Just like Apple’s new MacBook Air, the Vaio X505 used an ultralow voltage Intel chip, called Pentium M “ULV” 1.1GHz processor. It was also 0.83 inches at its thickest point and 0.38 inches at it thinnest point. The Sony Vaio X505 was smaller than Apple’s 11.6-inch MacBook Air, with a 10.4-inch display and 1.85 pounds weight.
Unveiling the new MacBook Air, Steve Jobs also announced that new Mac computers would not come pre-installed with Adobe Systems’ Flash Player. However, owners of Mac computers will be able to download and install Flash software as the company has not banned Flash software from its computers, as it did in case of its iPhone handsets and iPad tablet computer.
The 1.4 GHz 11-inch MacBook Air with 2GB of memory and 64GB of flash storage starts at a suggested retail price of $999 with a 128GB model for $1,199. The 1.86 GHz 13-inch MacBook Air with 2GB of memory and 128GB of flash storage starts at a suggested retail price of $1,299 with a 256GB model for $1,599. Configure-to-order options and accessories include faster processors, 4GB of memory, MacBook Air SuperDrive and a USB Ethernet Adapter.
