Girard-Perregaux Haute Horlogerie Opera Three Watch
For over two centuries now, Girard-Perregaux has been renown for its many remarkable creations, among them the emblematic Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges. From the research and development stage right through to the final adjustments made by master watchmakers, Girard-Perregaux continues to enrich its heritage through its Haute Horlogerie collection.
Girard-Perregaux Opera Three model was launched way back in 2003 and it is a device that actually incorporates an ultra-miniaturized music box. The main point of attraction of the Opera Three is the fact that it is able to sound the passing hours with a melody. The movement’s miniature carillon is composed of a keyboard with 20 blades and a drum whose surface has around 150 hand-mounted pins. So instead of some annoying digital beep at the top of the hour, you can enjoy Tchaikovsky or Mozart.
This Girard-Perregaux Haute Horlogerie Opera Three watch in platinum features a 43 mm case with an elegant silver dial shown here on a black alligator strap. The Opera Three also features a mechanical manual wound movement with an hourstriker complication and the ability to play two separate melodies, a power reserve indicator and sub seconds.
This phenomenal technical achievement is based on a Girard-Perregaux in-house built mechanism, namely the GP 00950.9100, which has a size of just around 13.2 mm, but incorporates no less than 45 jewels. Furthermore, it’s quite important to mention that the device works at a frequency of 28.800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), and provides a power reserve of minimum 50 hours.
The Opera Three watch from Girard-Perregaux is yet another one of those ultra-expensive timepieces that almost break the half-a-million barrier. And even though this device can be found now for under $500,000, it’s very likely that it will pretty soon become a collector’s item, which means that its value will seriously increase in the future.
