Ferrari World Abu Dhabi
The world’s largest and the first ever theme park dedicated to Ferrari, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, opened its doors to the international press on Wednesday. Ferrari World Abu Dhabi’s much-anticipated public opening was also scheduled for the same day, however it was postponed due to the death of 92-year-old Sheik Saqr bin Mohammed Al-Qasimi, the ruler of emirate Ras Al Khaimah. They only gave a preview to the international press, revealing some of the features of Ferrari’s first ever theme park, located in Bin Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The 40-acre theme park on Yas Island will now open its doors to the public on November 4, 2010. Designed by Benoy Architects, the stunning roof of Ferrari World is modeled after the side profile of a Ferrari GT and has a total surface area of 200,000 square meters (2,200,000 sq ft) with a perimeter of 2,200 meters.
The main attractions are the world’s fastest roller coaster, Formula Rossa, with top speeds of up to 150mph, the region’s first dueling roller coaster, Fiorano GT Challenge, and a 4-D experience inside Speed of Magic. Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates capital, hopes the park will help to draw tourists from around the globe along with several other ambitious projects including state-of-the-art branches of the Louvre and Guggenheim museums.
