Roman Abramovich’s £5 Million New Year’s Eve Party
Remember we told you about Roman Abramovich’s Caribbean Island party headlined by performances by Black Eyed Peas? It was, without doubt, the most glamorous New Year’s Eve party on the planet, with a guest-list of Hollywood’s biggest names and the world’s most popular band providing the entertainment. Apart from the world’s most popular band performing, the party saw glamour galore at the quiet Caribbean island of St Barts. The guests that turned up included names like Salma Hayek, Demi Moore, British lingerie model-turned-actress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and revelers like Star Wars director George Lucas, chat show host Ellen DeGeneres, and movie mogul Harvey Weinstein.
Abramovich had the entire area of the island cordoned off and a series of marquees were erected around the beach. He is believed to have spent millions on food and drink for his 250 guests. He commandeered a flotilla of luxury yachts, including one belonging to fellow Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko, on which guests could stay if they decided not to use any of the estate’s bungalows. And at the stroke of midnight a dazzling firework display was launched from a yacht to ensure the partygoers saw in 2011 in style.
The estate, which was once owned by the American banking family the Rockefellers, boasts a range of swimming pools, pavilions and Balinese bungalows with ocean views. The day before, Roman and Daria, the mother of his one-year-old son Aaron, were spotted heading to their super-yacht, the Eclipse.
