Sleeping on the job has built a business to Jon Gray. Canary Wharf workers are now able to catch up on 40 winks at Podtime, Jon’s short-term pay-to-sleep capsules, launched at 25 Bank Street this week.
Podtime is more than a spot surreptitiously to sleep off a hangover. The six pods cylindrical shaped with the size of just over two metres long and a little more than one metre in diameter, contain a memory foam mattress, pillow, clock and lockable door – could be good for your health. Podtime has a few ground rules: one person per pod, remove no more than your jacket and shoes, switch off mobile phones – the pods are no-noise zones – and check out at the desk when you are done. Anyone who does not wake up in time can expect a polite tap on the door.
Engineering graduate Jon always knew he wanted to use his degree to set up his own business. He worked in Merrill Lynch after graduating to earn enough capital to fulfil his ambition and during his work he noticed that there was nowhere for bankers to recover from a night out. Then he came up with idea of Podtime Sleeping Pods. He left his job three weeks ago. He hopes to expand to other site s around Canary Wharf and the Square Mile, and said he had received an en-quiry from RBS about opening in their headquarters.
Unfortunately, the pods are not available for sale but on booking basis at 25 Canada Square. Half an hour will cost you £5,99, one hour £9,99 and there is complimentary tea and coffee and shower facilities. [PodTime]
