McLaren, most famous for its top formula one team, in collaboration with American manufacturer Specialized, have created a racing road bicycle! The product will be available in two specifications, namely the McLaren and the S-Works Venge.
McLaren racing pro road bike has been designed by Chris D’Aluisio, Head of Research and Development for the latter company, and features an aerodynamic frame built entirely out of carbon fibre. The frame weighs only 950g (approximately 2.1 lbs), while the complete module (frame, fork, seatpost and crankset) tips the scales at 2.07 kg (4.5 lb). Additionally, the model benefits from an electronic gearshift.
After over four years of development, testing and over twenty trips to various wind tunnels, the S-Works Venge is the first Specialized bike to achieve the winning formula of weight, stiffness and aerodynamics. This design was then refined further through the McLaren partnership. In working with McLaren engineers, the S-Works+McLaren Venge maintained identical aerodynamics and stiffness, yet achieved an even lighter weight through its extremely advanced carbon layup design.
The racing bike will be available from about $10,000 later this year! [Autoevolution]
