GT40 Prototype Roadster at Villa d’Este
(RM Auction) – The “Ford-Ferrari Wars” are the stuff of legend… and countless books. This May at Villa d’Este, RM Auctions has the pleasure of offering at auction one of the most significant cars to participate in this motorsport rivalry: GT/111, the 1965 Ford GT40 Roadster, the fourth of only five prototype roadsters built.
In 1965, the car was driven at the Le Mans trials by Sir John Whitmore, who also drove the car with Bob Bondurant in the grueling Targa Florio that year. Believed lost for 40 years, it has now been fully restored in its correct original Linden Green livery by the most respected experts and has been raced successfully at vintage events in recent years.
