Robert Guelpen’s Aston Martin DB 5
If you are interested in buying the most expensive model car in the world, and don’t have a problem with the money, then Robert Guelpen from the town of Palling in Bavaria is the right guy for the negotiation! First you must offer at least $4.8 million and hope that others will not offer more, and then the most expensive model cars in the world might be yours!
Since 1999, Robert Guelpen, an engineer who spent eight years developing motors for Mercedes, has been making incredibly detailed, luxurious scale model cars. Now, he is looking for a buyer for his most expensive model at an auction in either New York or Dubai. The material costs him alone amount to about $2.7 million. They include components made of platinum, gold, sterling silver and lots of precious stones. He wanted to create something unique, something that has never existed before.
Right now Guelpen is seeking a car maker which will put one of its luxury cars at his disposal to attract bids. We have already put our proposal to a few companies, he says. Guelpen will then make a model of the car which he will take to auction. The buyer who bids the most can then request design changes such as different wheel caps or steering wheel. Three months later the owner will then have the most expensive model car in the world in their hands. The deal includes a display case made of bulletproof glass.
Guelpen is hoping to find a buyer in one of the rich Gulf states such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Qatar where he already has 25 per cent of his business. ‘There have already been several successful auctions for exclusive car number plates in that region. If the sale goes through Guelpen will donate $700,000 of the proceeds to charity. He already supports a children’s aid project in Sri Lanka. [M&C]
