Perrier Jouet Bi-Centenaire Champagne
French champagne house, Perrier-Jouet celebrated a passion and legacy built up over 200 year on 21 March, the first day of spring, in Paris this year. To mark the anniversary in luxury and elegant style the champagne house unveiled its first Living Legacy champagne Bi-Centenaire.
Making champagne is an art and Perrier-Jouet chose one of the most promising young visual artists of his generation, American Daniel Arsham, to design an exclusive work inspired by Perrier-Jouet’s conception of nature.
It is a legacy with two stories. The first takes place in the present: a champagne-lover treats himself to a magnum of Perrier-Jouet Belle Epoque 1998. The second takes place in the future: many years later, his descendant in turn enjoys a magnum of Belle Epoque 1998 that has been passed down through the years in his inheritance. There is a private cellar dedicated to the second magnums of Belle Epoque waiting to be claimed by their future owners (can be stored up to 100 years). Strictly aligned within a specially-dedicated area, the bottles will rest grandly at a perfect temperature and humidity. To achieve this elegant defiance of time, the vintage has been carefully chosen for its exceptional ageing capacity by current Cellar Master Herve Deschamps, the only seventh cellar master in the house’s 200 year-history.
Just 200 guests from 10 countries attended the private launch, set in the stunning glass courtyard of the iconic Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, symbolizing Perrier-Jouet’s passionate family spirit for passing on artisanal and artistic craftsmanship. Among the guests were Spanish choreographer and dancer Blanca Li, English designer and restaurateur Sir Terence Conran and TV presenter Stephane Bern. On display were portraits showcasing family legacy by photo studio Studio Harcourt. French chefs Alain Ducasse and Jean-Louis Nomicos prepared the elaborate dinner to be paired with the champagne. The dinner was modeled on the Perrier-Jouet Centenary menu of 1911. Adding the finishing touch was Daniel Arsham’s diptych sculpture, an exquisite artwork offering glimpses of the spirit of the night.
Only 100 units of the Perrier-Jouët Bi-Centenaire will be available, however. Connoisseurs can purchase it from Perrier-Jouet’s Epernay boutique or source it through the Pernod Ricard network for €10,000 (approx. $14,200). [Perrier-Jouet via POPSOP]
