Liquor supplier William Grant & Sons presented two rare 50yo bottles of Glenfiddich along with the Balvenie 40yo at DFS Group’s inaugural Master of Spirits event which took place in partnership with Changi Airport Group on March 12.DFS Group, operator of the DFS Gallerias, is one of the world’s largest duty free retailers, part of the LVMH Group.
This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity gave connoisseurs and collectors from DFS’s elite Platinum Services Club programme the chance to see, taste and purchase a selection of the world’s most rare, most exclusive and limited edition spirits wines and champagnes in a truly spectacular setting.
The bottles carry a combined price of S$100,000 (US$79,260), and the buyer will be entitled to a tasting evening at his home, and there will be some of the brand’s iconic whiskies. During the evening Glenfiddich Malt Master Brian Kinsman was present to offer insight into the creation of the products as well as offer guests tastings of both Glenfiddich 18 year old and 30 year old.
The Glenfiddich 50 Year Old Single Malt is one of the rarest and most exclusive single malt whisky expressions. A product of time, the exceptional malt spent 50 years maturing in the oak casks. William Grant & Sons laid down just nine casks between 1937 and 1939, and the upshot was bottled on July 26, 1991. It is the darkest Glenfiddich whisky, with a pleasantly sweet woody aroma that progresses to a smooth sweet fruity flavor. Out of the 500 bottles produced, only one is left for sale. The second half of the Century of Glenffidich duo is the current Glenfiddich 50yo, which has been gently aged in the semi-darkness of Warehouse 8 for half a decade.
The Balvenie 40yo and Century of Glenfiddich offerings remain on sale as part of the event and passengers passing through Singapore Changi airport can view and purchase these products at the Master of Spirits exhibition running from mid-March to April 30. The exhibition will be held in the terminal one departure transit mall (central piazza) and showcase products unveiled during the gala evening.
