The famous actor, Leonardo DiCaprio went to an auction at Christie’s last night and took the painting by Salvador Dali Chevaliers on Parade (1942) for $1.42 million. The Titanic star set his sights on the Dali painting after losing two Pablo Picasso works he had been bidding on earlier this week at the Christie’s auction in New York.
Gallery worker Rachel Steckson told the New York Post: He bid on the Picassos, but it was clear the Dali was what he wanted. He turned around and was like, ‘Yes!’.
Chevaliers on parade, with an initial value between $1.2 and $1.8 million, was painted during the exile of Catalan in the United States and represents a scene of war in which you can see a man on horseback a spear to pursue a sphere representing the world.
The sale of Chevaliers on parade took place in the last auction of Impressionist and modern art organized by Christie’s, which totaled $156 million, with works even came to $22.48 million as a Claude Monet (1840-1926) and a Maurice de Vlaminck (1876-1958).
