El Rey IV, Tony Lama’s $50,000 Cowboy Boots
Tony Lama Boots is celebrating their 100th anniversary with a pair of $50,000 Cowboy Boots. These boots are adorned with generous amounts of gold and diamonds.
4.4 ounces of 14-carat gold went into the making of these unique, blinding cowboy boots. These luxury boots come studded with 100 diamonds (commemorating 100 years of boot making). They will be making their only scheduled East Coast appearance at Carol’s Western Wear in Laurel and Glen Burnie, Maryland, May 13th through the 23rd. Named the El Rey IV or Kings, these boots are the fourth of a series. The first of these, El Rey I was designed to mark the 50th year of boot making at Tony Lama. This pair was stolen, as was the El Rey II. The El Rey III is still in safe custody though.
We’ve hired a security guard, and rented a safe for their time in Maryland to keep them secure. Any time they are out of the safe, the security guard must be there, too. We don’t want these boots to suffer the same fate as their predecessors, said Mr. Chance, owner of Carol’s Western Wear.
It seems that the price of El Rey boots with age increases, so El Rey I valued in 1961 at $5,000, El Rey II valued $10,000 in 1971 (both stolen while on display in Florida), El Rey III worth $32,000 (still safe and secure at Tony Lama’s headquarters), and finally the last and most expensive El Rey IV are priced at $50,000.
This stunning gold and diamond studded Tony Lama cowboy boots will be on display at Tony Lama’s Laurel store on 13, 14 and 15 May, and at Glen Burnie on 20, 21 and 22 May. [Tony Lama]
