Kanye West heads to Elton John’s charity bash in a $1.7m limited edition Mercedes
Kanye West decided to rent a limited edition Mercedes sports car valued at $1.7 million to make his entrance at a party in Cannes last night. A 33 years old rapper and his unidentified friend were spotted last night driving through the city centre in the 75 Mercedes McLaren SLR Stirling Moss vehicle. West was using the car to get to the amfAR dinner and auction, held at the Hotel du Cap in the Cap d’Antibes. The event was hosted by Elton John and dedicated to the late actress Elizabeth Taylor, who died earlier this year.
Only 75 examples of the rare supercar were ever made, which is why we assume that Kenny just rented a car. The vehicle, which can reach 217 MPH, crawled at 25mph through the streets of Cannes. This uncompromising car has no roof, nor a windscreen to protect the driver and passenger from the outside world. Further eye-catching features include two air scoops behind the driver and passenger. The limited-edition model comes with a 5.5-liter supercharged V8 engine that produces 650 horsepower, enough to propel it from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 217 mph (350 km/h).
Kanye in the black tuxedo and a luxury car resembled at James Bond later in the day joined supermodel Naomi Campbell, on stage at the amfAR’s Cinema Against AIDS Gala to raise awareness for the cause. Only big names made the guest list including fashion designer, Karl Lagerfeld, actress Kristen Dunst and Oscar winner, Sean Penn.
