Al Farrow’s Religious Sanctuaries Made Of Munitions
Munitions is obviously interesting as a material for making various creations. You may remember Caliber .223 – Unique Chess Set made from steel and bullet shell casings. You will be more delighted with amazing Religious Sanctuaries by San Francisco-based sculptor Al Farrow. He uses bullets, gun parts, steel, glass and bone to construct religious models laden with meaning.
Each sculpture is the stunning piece of miniature architecture, perfectly replicated and exquisitely detailed. The sculptures take on subdued tones of turquoise and blue, yet their strong forms give them significant presence. These structures somehow maintain a sense of calm divinity, reclaiming tools of destruction to subtly evoke peaceful social commentary.
One of his most recent and incredible works is Bombed Mosque (pictured above) which depicts a war ravaged mosque, an icon of modern warfare. The monumental sculpture, which took more than a year to create, is made with over 50,000 bullets and shell casings and weighs 780 pounds.
