Debbie Reynolds talks about the upcoming auction on The Oprah Winfrey Show
Marilyn Monroe’s white halter dress from The Seven-Year Itch movie is expected to fetch up to $2 million at the auction in Beverly Hills on June 18. The legendary dress designed by William Travilla caused a stir in the subway scene when a gust of air bellowed up the dress leading to the famous pose that sky rocketed the dress and the wearer to super-stardom.
This iconic dress is the star of a Hollywood memorabilia collection belonging to actress Debbie Reynolds. To solve her financial problems, the 79-year-old actress decided to sell off her vast collection of Hollywood mementos to the highest bidder. Judy Garland’s costume from The Wizard of OZ and Audrey Hebpburn’s dress from My Fair Lady are also famous pieces of her collection.
Debbie Reynolds has said she hopes the items end up in happy homes or even in museums so people can continue to enjoy them over the years. [Profiles in History]
