Kate Middleton’s Childhood Home Sold for $800,000

The house that Kate Middleton called home for 13 years was bought for £485,000 (approx. $797,000), which is £10,000 less than the guide price, by teacher Emma Appleby and her partner Tom Wyatt. The sale of the four-bedroomed semi-detached Victorian house, former home of the future Queen attracted interest from across the globe, with estate agents fielding calls from shipping tycoons and Russian billionaires.

The house in Bradfield, Berkshire, was bought by teacher Emma Appleby and her partner Tom Wyatt, and both insist they did not buy it for the royal connection. It is a great family house and one that we can grow into, said Miss Appleby. The Middleton factor did not influence us at all and we had no idea at first. We were attracted to the lovely village, lovely house, good primary school and being near friends.

Kate’s parents, Michael and Carole Middleton bought the red-brick Victorian home in 1979 when he was a pilot and she worked as a British Airways stewardess. They raised their three children: Catherine, Pippa and James, there before selling it in 1995. The Duchess of Cambridge lived in the house until she was 13. It has had two owners since the Middletons sold it for £158,000 in 1995.

The red brick home has been a key sight on bus tours of Middleton Country, which have attracted tourists since Kate’s engagement to Prince William was announced in November.
