Michael Jackson’s iconic Black and Red Jacket from the famous Thriller video is to go under the hammer at a two-day Music Icons Exhibition in Beverly Hills, on June 25. We already wrote about other Jackson’s items, that were on the auction such as gloves, helmet etc, but this unique jacket is the most recognised and significant piece of pop culture.
The calf leather jacket was given as a gift to his longtime costume designers Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush for inspiration and written a personal message to the former owners on the lining and signed the sleeve, Love Michael Jackson.
The jacket is expected to fetch between $200,000 and $400,000 at Julien’s Auction Gallery in Beverly Hills. Other Jackson items up for sale include the wig he wore when he announced his ill-fated This Is It concert series in London, a fedora and spangled glove he wore on stage, his shirt from the Scream video and the battered mailbox from the Carolwood Drive estate where Jackson died at age 50 in 2009.
Among 600 other collectibles, there is Elvis Presley original TCB necklace, Frank Sinatra’s custom Jaguar, Gene Simmons’ checkered pants, an absurd Liberace cow-hide coat and a Madonna bustier. A part of its proceeds will go to none other than Thriller and Sabu, the late artist’s previously owned Bengal Tigers who now reside in Shambala Preserve. [Julien’s Auctions]
