Indiana Jones’ Iconic Bullwhip
Indiana Jones fans have a chance to compete for some props from the film Raiders of the Lost Ark at the Bonhams auction in Los Angeles on June 26, just in time for the 30th anniversary of the movie. Highlight of the auction will be Indiana Jones legendary bullwhip from the hit movie of 1981. The iconic bullwhip is expected to be sold for $50,000 to $70,000.
During filming, there were used six bullwhips, and this 12.5 foot long stunt whip is the only one that still remains intact. It is believed that just this one was used in the scene in which Harrison Ford is dragged behind a truck. Next to bullwhip another interesting item is golden idol that was also used during filming, which is expected to fetch between $20,000 and $30,000. The props are accompanied by a letter of provenance from Academy Award-winning special effects expert, Kit West, who was the mechanical effects supervisor on Raiders Of The Lost Ark.
In 2003 the American Film Institute ranked Indiana Jones the second greatest movie hero ever, and in 2010 Time pegged Indiana as the second greatest fictional character, behind Sherlock Holmes, and the movie raked in over $384 million at the box office, according to IMDB. [Bonhams]
