Colin and Chris Weir, Euromillions Lottery Winners
Colin and Chris Weir, a couple from Largs in Ayrshire have been named as the winners of the £161 million Euromillions Lottery prize. Colin Weir, 64, and his wife Chris, 55, won the jackpot, which means they are now 430th in the Sunday Times UK Rich List, just after the Beckhams. They were unveiled as the winners today at the Macdonald Inchyra Hotel & Spa in Polmont, near Falkirk.
The couple have been married for 30 years and have two children. Mr Weir, who has worked as a TV cameraman and studio manager for 23 years, said: When we first realised we had won, it felt like a dream. Everything went into slow motion. But it feels like a good thing; something we should not to be afraid of but for us to enjoy with the children.
We have both always wanted to see the Great Wall of China and Colin would love to stand at the foot of Ayres Rock in Australia, says Chris. We also love art galleries, so this gives us the chance to visit those in Paris and in Russia. These are all things we thought we would never see. They have also already decided to buy homes for their two children, Jamie, 22, who works in a call centre, and daughter, Carly, 24, a photography student.
Mr Weir is a football fan, following Spanish football at home. Now he hopes to see Barcelona play from the comfort of his own box at the Camp Nou stadium. He and his wife play the lottery regularly and have played EuroMillions since it started in 2004. The winning ticket was bought from McColls in Moorburn Road, Largs.
Before Tuesday’s draw, the largest lottery winner in the UK was the player who claimed £113 million in the Euromillions last October and chose to remain anonymous.
