Panthermobile, iconic vehicle from the Pink Panther Show is coming up for sale for only the second time in history through an online auction on 4th September. Estimations for a sale price are between £50,000 ($82,000) and £100,000 ($164,000) (in 2007 it sold for £88,000).
Panthermobile was built in 1969 by Hollywood legend, Jay Ohrberg, who was also responsible for creating quite a number of famous movie and TV vehicles – the DeLorean from Back to the Future, K.I.T.T from Knight Rider, Batmobiles seen in the 1966 and 1989 versions of Batman, the Gran Torino used by Starsky & Hutch and even the General Lee from the Dukes of Hazard. The Panthermobile is arguably the most extreme of all. Mr.Ohrberg kept the vehicle in his personal collection till 2007, when he sold it for £88,000.
The auctioneers, Robson Kay, say the car embodies the whimsical-modern aesthetic of the era and the television show. Prospective buyers might also want to note that the vehicle is also not deemed street-legal.
You can see the Panthermobile in person at the Chelsea Auto Legends Show, which takes place on the same day as the start of the auction, 4 September 2011. Robson Kay will be conducting the auction via BidSpotter, which will end at 13:00 on October 14th.
