Everest, 200 meter (656 feet) yacht that was supposed to be launched 2010, is currently under construction for delivery in 2013. Designed by Donald Starkey, Everest will be longer than two football fields put together, so it could become the world’s largest private yacht.
Gigayacht Everest will have five decks high atrium with central staircase serviced by two elevators which connect all decks, including the sun deck. Everest will have accommodations for 36 passengers and guests consisting of 17 apartments and an Owners private penthouse suite on the top deck. Every suite will have private terraces. There are accommodations for approximately 60 crew and 20 staff and operational staff (heli-pilots, security staff etc.) located on the forward lower decks.
Some of amenities include a submarine, helipad and hangar, indoor and outdoor pools, cinema, scuba center, a large gymnasium, well-being center, sauna and steam rooms. Access via helicopter is possible on the topmost aft deck and also on the forward main deck which includes a platform lowering into a heli-hangar below and possibly 3 cars and associated landing craft. There’s even talk of installing deck-launched torpedoes and SAMs: Ship-to-Air Missiles to guard against terrorists and Somali pirates.
This vessel is capable of trans-Pacific cruising at approximately 24 knots. Propulsion is diesel electric with azipods.
