Tata Nano though touted as being the cheapest car seems amongst the most expensive after a single car was given a golden overhaul to probably make it the most unaffordable car yet. Tata Group on Monday unveiled a Goldplus Nano Car, made with gold and silver, and studded with precious stones.

It’s a one-off version of India’s people’s car encased in 80 kilos of 22-karat gold, 15 kilos of sliver and 10,000 semi-precious and precious stones, including diamonds, rubies… The car was unveiled at Tata Theatre in Mumbai by none other than Ratan Tata, Chairman of Tata Group. The car itself is priced at a relatively modest $3,000. But at its current price – $1,819 per troy ounce – the gold alone adds $4.68 million.
Unfortunately, all that glitter can’t be bought – the car is to be used for branding and promotional purposes by GoldPlus Jewellery, which happens to be part of Titan Industries, which is a Tata Group company.
