The sixth Part des Anges (the Angel’s Share) Cognac Auction held on the 15th September at the cellars of Cognac Monnet broke all previous records. This year’s auction raised a record €100,600 ($135,000), and profits from will be going to the Order of Malta, orderofmalta.org.uk, to contribute to the renovation of its care centre in Rochefort, Charente Maritime.
The highest bid at this year's La Part des Anges charity auction was €15,000, for a five-litre demijohn of 1985 Cognac Frapin.
The most expensive sale was a five litre flagon of 1985 vintage Frapin Cognac, that had an estimate of €3,500-5000, sold for an whooping €15,000 (over $20,000). The particular series of rare cognacs from 1985 vintage has been known for its distinctive flavors which are symbolic of the cellars of Chateau Fontpinot. The aromas and taste linger on your palate for a considerable amount of time, leaving behind and unveiling the specialties of the region. Also to be noted is that this series of cognac comes from a single estate of Grande Champagne, which makes it rare and of high novelty value.
The successful bidder was Thierry Benitah of ‘La Maison du Whisky, who was presented with his purchase by Jean-Pierre Cointreau, CEO of Cognac Frapin.
In second place was a Remy Martin La Coupe Speciale La Part des Anges, 2011, which sold for five times its estimate, reaching €10,000 ($13,430). A bottle of Hennessy Timeless sold for €9,500 ($12,750). Organised by the BNIC, the night also paid tribute to Bernard Guionnet, following his sad death in April of this year.
