Janet Sheed Roberts, granddaughter of the Glenfiddich distillery’s founder, William Grant celebrates 110th birthday, and to mark that occasion Glenfiddich has announced that it is releasing 11 special bottles of the 55-year-old Speyside single malt.
The first one of the 11 bottles will go up for auction at Bonhams in Edinburgh on 14 December, and it is expected to raise £30,000 ($48,000). Proceeds from this Edinburgh sale will go to charity Water Aid, that promotes safe and clean water around the world. The remaining 10 bottles of 55-year-old Glenfiddich whisky will be auctioned around the world over the coming months to honor Janet Sheed Roberts, the oldest person in Scotland. She has played an active part in the family business over the years and to this day lives close to the Glenfiddich distillery.
Peter Gordon, chairman of Glenfiddich and great-nephew of Janet Roberts, said: The Glenfiddich Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve is one of the rarest whiskies the company has ever released and it is a real part of the family’s history. He went on to say: My great-aunt has witnessed great change at the Glenfiddich distillery over the past 100 years, so it only seems fitting to honour her remarkable life in this way.
Bonhams has predicted that collectors will be extremely interested in this unique bottle of whisky.
Martin Green, of Bonhams, said: It’s not often a whisky of this nature comes up at auction. The rarity and quality of the liquid, the exquisite bespoke packaging and the story behind its creation makes this a collectible that is hard to value, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it reaches in excess of £30,000.
