The Hinduja Brothers are set to move into the neighbourhood of Queen Elizabeth II, giving Britain’s monarch her first Indian neighbours and the billionaire NRI family a place at the top table of British society. The Indian billionaire brothers have now decided to invest £100 million ($160 million) in an expensive home in London, just an earshot from the iconic Buckingham Palace.

The Hindujas bought the four properties, which were in a run-down condition, for £58 million in 2006. They spent £40-£50 million to bring it back to their old glory. It took the Hindujas, who have an estimated fortune of £6 billion, five years to restore the mansion located on the Mall, the boulevard in front of the UK’s monarch’s London residence. The fabulous new family home of Srichand, Gopichand, Ashok and Prakash Hinduja is the largest residential Grade 1-listed home in London.
Situated on Carlton Terrace, the six-storey building is among the poshest addresses in London and is a stone’s throw from St James Palace, another royal residence. Originally built for King George IV in the 1820s. the palatial mansion boasts of six floors and 50 rooms that will be divided into four spacious, apartments which will be then allotted to the four brothers. The new Hinduja home is a palace in its own right, set over 70,000 sq feet, it has a swimming pool and a private cinema.
The Hindujas’ acquisition includes a dining room which can seat more than 30 people on a glass table. Italian chandeliers and Honduran mahogany paneling adorn the house. The meticulous restoration work under the watchful eyes of English Heritage has relaid solid marble floors. [The Times of India]
