A Singapore businessman has paid $1 million for a ticket for him, his wife and two children to travel to space with Virgin Galatic. So, they will become the first Asian family to fly to space together with the space-tourism airline. This family join over 500 others in the wait for the first flights, with just nine ticket-holders from Singapore.
I had lunch yesterday with a guy who got in touch with us in Singapore, and over lunch he signed his contract for not just a seat, but for a whole flight, Virgin Galactic commercial director Stephen Attenborough said.
Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic has sold bookings since 2005 at $200,000 per person for the six seater, one-launch-per-week flight, even though it has not yet set a firm timetable for space flights to be launched from New Mexico.
If everything goes smoothly, we would hope to be flying people to space by 2013, Attenborough added.
