James Bond’s famous Rolex watch which we have written so many times is finally sold for $198,000 at Christies Auction House. A watch worn by Roger Moore in the 1973’s film Live and Let Die was sold to anonymous buyer during 2011 November’s sale of luxury watches in Geneva, who had to pay $245,980, including the buyer’s premium.
This original Rolex Reference 5513 Submariner boasts buzz-saw bezel used by 007 to free himself and Solitaire (Jane Seymour) before they could be fed to hungry sharks AND a hyper intensified magnetic field generator. There is a small pinhole where there was once a thin wire installed to help unzip Miss Smith’s dress during filming. The unique watch was produced by Rolex in 1972 and still has its original bracelet.
The highlight of the nine-hour Christie’s auction held in Geneva was the sale of a pink gold wristwatch manufactured by Swiss watchmaker Patek Philippe in 1968, which fetched $2,3 million, more than double its pre-auction estimate worth. Some 222 sellers from 39 countries, many from China, took part in the auction, Christie’s auction house said.
