There will be a special bank holiday to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in the United Kingdom on Tuesday, June 5, 2012. This event honors the 60-year reign of Queen Elizabeth II in the UK. In honor of Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the Jersey Post has created a Limited Edition Diamond Stamp. Each sheet will feature two stamps, one of the reigning Queen while the other will be of her father King George VI. Just 600 of the limited edition Diamond Jubilee stamps, which come in a secure presentation box, will be created and will cost £125 ($190) each. When they are released on 6 February, Jersey will become the first place in Britain to issue a bejewelled stamp.

Each hand-cut 1.25mm diamond is fixed to a diamond diadem crown worn by the Queen on one of the two stamps in the souvenir sheet of limited edition stamps. The special edition was printed by Cartor Security Printing of France, who developed a special technique that would allow the company to affix real diamonds to the stamps.
Head of the Jersey Philatelic Bureau Sally Diamond Ferbrache, who designed the issue, said: We’ve always had a close relationship with Cartor Security Printing of France and the managing director Ian Brigham had shared with me early in 2011 that they had developed a unique technique of being able to affix a real diamond to a stamp. Of course, given the Diamond Jubilee, it was an opportunity we could not miss.
This is the first time that a British stamp has been adorned with a real diamond and these unique Souvenir Miniature Sheets will be available only from the Jersey Philatelic Bureau on a first come, first served basis. [Diamond Jubilee Stamps]
