Barbie makers Mattel are set to launch their first collectors’ range, the Prince William and Catherine Royal Wedding dolls to commemorate the royal couple’s first wedding anniversary. Each plastic model, measuring 11.5 inches tall, replicates the original wedding costumes worn by the royal couple who wed at Westminster Abbey on April 29 last year. Kate’s doll wears an ivory wedding gown with a lace torso and full skirt, and rocks an ivory veil, a sparkling tiara and matching drop earrings. Will’s doll dons a replica of his scarlet Irish Guards colonel’s uniform.
But before you agree to add this to your child’s Barbie collection, you should be aware that the pair wil set you back $100 – so they’re perhaps more suited to the collector’s display cabinet than the battered toy box. Mattel’s William and Catherine Royal Wedding gift set is available for pre-order online now at BarbieCollector.com.
This isn’t the first time we’re seeing royal wedding dolls. Last year, collectable company Franklin Mint issued a $295 Kate Middleton royal engagement doll, which featured a replica of her dress. And who could forget the strangely Prince William And Kate Over-sized Heads Wedding Dolls, released by British toy company Arklu in August 2011?
