After a lengthy bidding battle, Sotheby’s New York auctioned a Rare Nebuchadnezzar 15 Liter Bottle of Masseto 2007 for $49,000 at February’s wine auction. The rare bottle is one of only eight ever produced by esteemed Italian winery, Tenuta dell’Ornellaia. CEO and President of Sotheby’s Wine Jamie Ritchie said in a statement Monday that the sale confirmed it’s highly desirable status with bidders from Asia, Europe and the Americas competing to win the coveted bottle, which went to a private Asian buyer in the end.
Top lot of wines sales was 12 bottles of Pétrus 1982, which brought $58,188 against estimates of $40,000 to $60,000. New York wine auction raises $2.2 million in total with 99% lot sold.
