At RM’s upcoming Monaco auction, taking place May 11-12, a significant collection of Ducati motorcycles will be offered. Featuring perhaps the world’s most significant Ducati collection – the Saltarelli Collection – the sale also features the GP10 and GP11 bikes offered directly from the Ducati factory.
2011 Ducati Desmosedici GP11 VR2
Casey Stoner had brought Ducati their sought-after victory as masters of MotoGP in 2007. He finished 4th Overall in 2010, and 2010 Ducati Desmosedici GP10 CS1 is the machine from Casey Stoner’s Phillip Island-winning race. The 2011 Ducati Desmosedici GP11 VR2, raced by Valentino Rossi, exemplifies the evolution of the 800-cc D16 from the world-beating GP7 through until the end of this formula in 2011. Quite literally, the offering of such superb motorcycles is unlikely to be repeated, much less directly from the Ducati factory.
The Saltarelli Collection will present Ducati enthusiasts with the opportunity to acquire 100 examples spanning virtually the entire history of the Ducati marque. Smitten by a chance encounter with a Ducati in the Italian countryside when he was only 16, Carlo Saltarelli went on to become a Ducati test rider, racer and dealership owner. After Saltarelli quit racing for good in 1980, he began to form what became perhaps the world’s most significant collection of Ducati motorcycles. [RM Auctions]
