Woodford Reserve will sell world’s most exclusive and most expensive $1,000 Mint Julep Cups to benefit horse-related charities, seventh year in a row. The mint julep has been the official drink of the Kentucky Derby for seventy-five years, so this 2012 is the year for celebrating. Only 75 of the exclusive cups will be sold beginning April 16. Proceeds from this year’s cup sales will benefit The Heart of a Horse Foundation.
There will be a total of 75 mint julep cups designed for the Mint Julep Cup Experience: 65 traditional cups, meticulously hand-engraved with a beautiful horse scene, along with the iconic Woodford Reserve logo and 2012 Kentucky Derby date, and will come with an exclusive sterling silver sipping straw. The other ten are the Prestige cups, sterling silver cups plated in 24 karat gold and feature a diamond studded horseshoe with 43 diamonds totaling approximately one carat. Prestige cups will be double the price of the traditional cups and will be sold at $2,000.
Each of the cups will be individually numbered and will be presented in Woodford Reserve’s signature casing made from the same wood as barrels of Woodford Reserve.
This year’s luxury mint julep will feature double the unique ingredients: Woodford Reserve bourbon called Double Oaked; lemon mint grown in California; bourbon mint julep sugar; bourbon vanilla sugar; and ice from both Versailles, Ky., and from near Versailles, France.
Last year, Woodford Reserve, was selling the world’s most exclusive and most expensive Mint Julep for $1,000, also in the name of charity, but in the collaboration with Tiffany & Co.
