Original Gene Wilder’s Willy Wonka signature costume is estimated to fetch $80,000 – $120,000, when it comes to the auction block in July. Unique Willy Wonka costume is set to go under the hammer as part of a collection of memorabilia from the one of Hollywood’s all-time kids’ movies, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Originally obtained from Michael D. Beinner, Director of Field Advertising and Publicity for Paramount Pictures who was gifted the costume following its promotional tour of several key cities around the U.S. This one of the most iconic and instantly recognizable costumes in the history of film consists of flamboyant purple velvet frock coat, wool and camelhair slacks, off-white shirt, distinctive purple and violet lamé vest with floral design and satin bow tie.
Other notable pieces up for grabs at the auction include three iconic items from the collection of Julie Dawn Cole, who played Veruca Salt. All three are expected to fetch $20,000-$30,000. The first is an original screen-used Everlasting Gobstopper, one of only two known to exist. The second one is the Golden Egg used by Cole in the I Want it Now musical number in the film. The egg comes with a notarised copy of a letter from the actress, which reads in part, The Filming of this scene and Veruca’s demise was actually filmed on my 13th birthday. The egg was presented to me at the end of the day’s shoot as a birthday present. The egg is fashioned from polystyrene foam painted gold. And, the third item from the grand collection is is a Cole’s screen used original Gold Ticket.
Also up for auction is a Wonka Scrumdiddlyumptious bar from actor Peter Ostrum’s collection. The sole hero Wonka Scrumdiddlyumptious bar in existence, it is estimated to grab $3,000 – $5,000. One more item is an Oompa Loompa costume worn by one of the actors portraying the industrious Wonka factory workers. This costume is said to be the only Oompa Loompa piece that has survived the test of time. The most recognizible costume in the movie history, may fetch $8,000 – $12,000!
Besides these collection of memorabilia from the beloved 1971 movie, at upcoming July sale by auction house Profile in History, can also be found: Michael Jackson’s signature leather costume from his Bad tour; the most significant Christopher Reeve Superman collection in private hands; Will Ferrells Ron Burgundy costume from Anchorman and others from Blades of Glory & Talladega Nights; as well as signature costumes and props from such legendary films and TV shows as Star Treck, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, X-Men, Batman and Austin Powers.
