Audi used the 2012 Wörthersee Tour in Austria to unveil a new bike they have created for sport, fun and tricks. The Audi e-bike Wörthersee is a high-end performance bicycle designed and custom created by Audi engineers to features everything best possible for a bike in terms of design, lightweight construction, networking and electric mobility.

The frame of the bike is constructed from carbon-fiber and weighs just 1.6kg. The frame houses an onboard computer and a Li-ion battery pack. Excluding the battery, the complete bicycle weighs only 21 kg (46.30 lb), equivalent to a power-weight ratio of 9 kg (19.84 lb) per kilowatt, or 7 kg (15.43 lb) per horsepower. The 26-inch wheels are constructed from carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) and incorporate large-area blade-pattern spokes, allowing them to weigh just 600 grams each. It even uses LED lighting for the front and rear lights to conserve battery life during nighttime rides.
But, the most striking component of this e-bike is an onboard computer that enhances the cycling experience. Audi installed the computer within the handlebar and allows riders to activate software using their phones. Avid cyclists can store their favorite routes within the phone and track performance metrics including battery charge, speed and riding angle. The Wörthersee e-bike also appeals to daredevils by rewarding points for successful tricks as recorded by the phone’s camera. These points are transmitted to a dedicated website where e-bike riders around the world can compete.
Electric power comes from a 2.3 kW motor, the most powerful currently installed on an e-bike. A top speed of 50 mph is possible with a maximum range of 31-44 miles. Cyclists also can choose between five different riding programs, which either support the use of wheelie mode or shift your weight around by leaving it fully‘electric-only travel.
