Lurssen, a German shipbuilding company based in Bremen-Vegesac, has started with construction of what expected to become the world’s largest luxury yacht when it is launched. Just few days after launching its 147m Topaz yacht – the 4th largest yacht in the world, Lurssen initiated Project Azzam, which is currently in construction at the Lürssen yacht building facility in Germany. The approximately 180m Lurssen Project Azzam Superyacht will be the equivalent length of almost two football pitches. Azzam will replace the 162.5 metre Blohm + Voss mega yacht Eclipse as the largest luxury yacht in the World and she will also be the largest of the Lurssen fleet.

No details have been released yet, but according to its photos, her propulsion system should be mighty and mighty powerful, given four exhausts. All images show that the yacht also still has bare aluminum in some superstructure sections.
There are some speculations about the owner of the yacht, bearing in mind the name of the yacht. Namely, “Azzam” means “determined” in Arabic, and the Abu Dhabi Volvo 70 that is currently competing in the Volvo Ocean Race also has the same name, so maybe the owner is from Dubai?! If nothing else, constructing the world’s largest motor yacht is surely determination! [Photo: Claus Schäfe/TheYachtPhoto.com]
