Perhaps you’ve heard for many ostensibly carbon fiber wheels, but this time it is about real – the world’s first full one-piece carbon fiber composite wheel dubbed the CR9. Carbon Revolution, a privately owned Australian company, was meritorious for that challenging job, thanks to its highly focused and effective group of leading engineers, scientists and industrialists.
The one-piece carbon fiber wheels are 40%-50% lighter than aluminium wheels, and they exceed OEM standards in laboratory and track tests. They offer greater acceleration, braking, ride and handling and steering responsiveness. Constructed from continuous fiber, the wheels are plenty strong thanks to advanced aerospace alloys that are combined with the lightweight carbon.
The CR9 started as an independently run research and development program in collaboration with a leading research institution and now Carbon Revolution is in the process of commissioning its first commercial production line. Much of the capacity of this line will be used in further development work across the automotive OEM, aerospace and industrial sectors, but a small number of wheels will be available to the market globally over the coming months.
