Ferrari 275 GTS Spyder with coachwork by Pininfarina is undoubtedly a very rare car. But right-hand drive model is even rarer, just 19 of the 200 built were right hand models. Now, one of this stunning models, an open top red Ferrari 275 GTS Spyder with coachwork by Pininfarina, sold for £561,500 ($876,000) at Bonhams Goodwood Festival of Speed Sale, on 29th June.
Before this transaction, the car was owned by Hong Kong resident from 1994, who bought it from Charles Lucas. Lucas is actually its first owner. The rare Ferrari was manufactured in 1965 and delivered to Colonel Ronnie Hoare’s Maranello Concessionaires and one month later sold to Charles Lucas.
According to the auctioneer, the car has been extensively restored in the last year or two and is in stunning condition. It comes with all Ferrari benefits from that period, as generously sized seats, wood veener dashboard which was used for the first time by Ferrari starting for this model and it even has its special toll roll that appear to be rare than the car.
In Ferrari nomenclature of the period a model’s designation reflected an individual cylinder’s cubic capacity, so the newcomer displaced 3.3 litres, up from its predecessor’s 3.0 litres. In standard trim the GTS’s Columbo-type, 60-degree, V12 engine produced 260bhp at 7,000rpm.
Since 1994, when the car passed to the owner – Hong Kong resident, it has resided – duties paid – in both the UK and Hong Kong. Although not currently registered with the DVLA, it comes with a copy V5 (for the registration ‘GGO 491C’) and Hong Kong registration papers.
