The interest for Babe Ruth’s artifacts continues unabated. Heritage Auction will offer a lot of items related to this American baseball legend at its Platinum Night Auction on August 2nd 2012 in Baltimore. The highlight of the upcoming auction will certainly be The Only 1927 Babe Ruth Game Used Bat in Private Hands, PSA/DNA GU 10.
For eight and a half decades, when it comes to baseball and of course who else than Babe Ruth, the season of 1927 is still mentioned as most crucial. At that time, the Yankees truly became the team that we now know it to be, and that Babe Ruth cemented his personal legacy as the most enduring name in American sport.
The “notched” bat used by the Babe in 1927 denotes home runs hit with the bat – Ruth’s record 60. This bat isn’t just any, it’s one of Ruth’s favorite bats from that historic campagne, according to leading expert John Taube. He makes this assertion “based upon the outstanding use pattern on the left barrel and the presence of handle scoring and heavy barrel scoring, both of which are excellent Ruth characteristics.”
“After a thorough examination of this George ‘Babe’ Ruth professional model bat and its player use characteristics, it is our opinion that the bat is authentic, and was game used by Ruth during his historic 1927 season. The bat exhibits heavy use and possesses outstanding player use characteristics. We have assigned the bat a grade of PSA/DNA GU 10,” Taube concluded.
