One year ago, the sale of the McLaren MP4-12C has begun, and now, to the end of this year the 2013 McLaren MP4-12C Spider, the second model in the MP4-12C lineup, will join to their luxury fleet. It was just announced that the Spider will be available for delivery in November, and for your information at the UK market the pricing starts at £195,500 ($300,000).
The three-piece car’s roof system manufactured by Lotus, which McLaren calls the “Retractable Hard Top” will convert the McLaren MP4-12C from coupe to roadster in around 17 seconds. If you want to put the roof down, you don’t need completely to stop, just slow down at speeds of up to about 20mph and push the button, and in 17 seconds, you’ ll have the fresh air.
“Removing the roof will dial up the sensations, the emotions and the noise heard – especially at the speeds the 12C Spider will be capable of,” says McLaren.
Jenson Button agrees with that: “You definitely feel more at one when there is no roof. It just feels a lot more natural: you smell the tyres, you smell the brakes, you smell the car and it really make you fell like part of the car.”
The 12C Spider is almost identical to its fixed roof cousin, with the exception that Spider hit little slower top speed of 204mph. This truly luxury convertible carbon-fibre MonoCell chassis supercar is equipped with a 616-horsepower 3.8-liter V8 twin-turbo engine linked to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
McLaren Automotive Managing Director Antony Sheriff shared his thoughts on the new ride: “While the 12C is the technological essence of a race car, the 12C Spider incorporates an additional dimension. 12C Spider owners will love the opportunity to lower the roof and hear the unhindered howl of a V8 twin turbo engine at full throttle. It undoubtedly enhances an already euphoric 12C driving experience. The 12C Spider delivers all the thrills characteristic of a high performance roadster, and yet transforms into a raucous track beast at the flick of a switch. I can’t wait to see it on road and track with customers later this year.”
McLaren offers the Spider in 17 different paint options along with interior and exterior upgrades to the navigation, audio system, detailing and more. Visit McLarenAutomotive.com to learn more.
