Last year, when we wrote about Lola and Mugly – newlyweds who have been an attraction in the most expensive dogs wedding in the UK, we had no idea that it could be surpassed. Now, on the global level, the record for the world’s most expensive pet wedding in the history is set. Few days ago, two dogs “got married” at a Manhattan extravaganza to benefit the Humane Society of New York, and $158,187.26 was required to set a Guinness World Record in the category of most expensive pet wedding .
The main stars of this dog wedding were newlyweds of course – the bride Baby Hope Diamond, a white Coton de Tulear with black-gray markings, who wore a couture dress by designers Henry and Michele Roth, and her poodle groom, a dapper dude named Chilly Pasternak from Richmond, Virginia. Baby Hope was adopted by animal welfare activist Wendy Diamond after her beloved Maltese “Lucky Diamond” died of cancer last month (she also held a Guinness Record as the animal most photographed with famous people, with more than 300 celebrities).
No expense was spared for the black-tie gala, held at the Jumeirah Essex House Hotel at Central Park. The “dream team” included a celebrity wedding planner, a “lighting guru” with experience at major museums, and highly touted chefs for the reception, to name just a few. The luxury goods and services that went into the wedding were all donated. Since the guests came from more than one species, a company co-owned by Ellen DeGeneres provided a pet food buffet.
“I am not the mother of the bride, since Baby Hope is 56 years old in dog years,” Diamond said on her website. “Just call me the Maid of Honor!”
Guests which bought tickets for the Manhattan fundraiser were treated to music from a seven-piece orchestra, with a jazz trumpet soloist.
Animal Fair Media, which hosted the event, has raised over $1 million the past decade for animal welfare.
